The girls at the bar were wearing these phony dresses with glitter and all. That got me depressed as hell, it truly did, I couldn't stand it. If there’s one thing I can’t stand is phony girls at fancy bars, I swear to God, I don’t know why. The pianist started playing a lousy song. I paid the check and went out to the street. It was late but people were still flowing into the bars. They all were a bunch of phonies. I had never seen so many phonies at once. It started to rain again and I felt like giving old Jane a buzz.
I went to the booth but when I got there I wasn’t in the mood anymore, you gotta be in the mood for this kind of things. But for Chrissake I wanted to ask her so much if she still keeps her kings in the back row. I put the coin in the phone and gave her a buzz. Her mother picked up, you could tell she wasn’t awful happy about me calling this late, but I didn’t care, sure as hell I didn’t. She finally put Jane on the phone:
- Hey Jane, do you still keep your kings in the back row? I gotta know.
